The eagerly awaited community sports complex at the Hershey Centre will become the new home of the Mississauga Sports Hall of Fame. The Complex was open for programming in the fall. “Mississauga is a young city in terms of time, but one with deep roots and proud sports heritage and athletic achievements that go back long before we became a city” says Hall of Fame committee chairman Mike Toth. “It is essential to preserve the best of the past for future generations. The new complex that will house our Hall of Fame will allow us to showcase a significant segment of our sports heritage with pride and in a dignified surrounding it deserves.” The current home is located on the fourth floor of the Civic Centre and it consists of a wall of fame and display cases containing biographies of inductees. Development of the new interactive Hall of Fame is under way. Design is focused on blending mixed media throughout the public areas of the facility. Elements will include a wall of fame; exhibit cabinets and displays; memorabilia; interactive kiosks/touch screens/video monitors; wall graphics/murals; and print material(posters/banners, etc.). Main Lobby Stories and memorabilia showcasing hall of famers are on display in cabinetry designed to blend in with the surroundings and provide an opportunity for visitors to view our rich sports heritage. In the spring of 2008, a selection of interactive screens will provide access to greater details and audio/visual media. Central Hall The wall of fame will run along this central corridor between gyms and the indoor field. To date there are 97 honoured hall of famers with additional inductions taking place annually. Commemorative picture/bios of current inductees will be displayed, with room to grow as new inductees are added on an ongoing basis.
